The Story Behind Femlorette

To mark an official start, we launched femlorette.com on my mom’s heavenly birthday. 

That date is incredibly special because my mom is the biggest inspiration behind my why. When I think about the Femlorette girl who will read one of my articles, I often picture my mom in her twenties. And honestly, that thought makes me emotional because my mom had a challenging life. She didn’t have the luxury of gliding through those years with the guidance of her mother, supportive sisters or a community of girlfriends she could lean on. There wasn’t a network around her helping to navigate certain situations, or simply reminding her that she didn’t have to figure everything out on her own.

I think about what she needed at that time. I think about the things I needed when I was starting my life as a young woman in a new city. The conversations I wish someone had initiated. The knowledge I wish I had been given sooner. The little pieces of guidance that could have made me more sure of myself and better equipped to advocate for myself as a woman in a world that hasn’t always been built with our best interests in mind. 

And I think about how many other women have needed those same things.

That is why Femlorette exists.

Femlorette encompasses so many of the things I love: all the girly things, the heartfelt things, meaningful conversations, beauty, connection, and, most importantly, helping people. 

I’ve always leaned in to conversations with the women around me—my family, my girlfriends, even perfect strangers in the ladies room, who all have similar experiences around being single. With every conversation and every shared experience I began to realize—

It’s simply hard out here for a single gal.

So, I wanted to create a destination where single women can navigate dating, relationships, girlhood, beauty, health, wellbeing, travel, style and all of the experiences that shape who we are. A space where women can feel seen, supported, and inspired to live their best life—with or without romantic love.

That’s how it all started.

Perhaps the most beautiful part of this journey is that the work is healing for me, too. Every woman I reach through Femlorette heals a little piece of my heart. And maybe, in some small way, Femlorette can be the community my mom didn’t have- the place where we can have the experiences and dream the dreams she never got the chance to realize.
